My husband’s work brought us here after 1 year in Elizabethtown Kentucky in 2015. We loved all the steeples of Clarksville’s downtown reminding us of Europe. My husband is Ret. USAF 24 years, but remains in his field of IT.
I have some studio photography experience as well but my passion is outdoor photography which fits in with hiking, kayaking, camping, and organic gardening. I am a birder and conservationist so my current work is of local birds I shot off my back deck of our new house last winter and Spring. We have a greenbelt on the back side of our property and I was delighted to have so many feathered friends show up last winter when I put of some seed in my favorite vintage feeder. I really love photos on Canvas which will probably be my main medium of exhibition.
Since my first exposure to clay in a class at the Greensboro NC Cultural Center over 25 years ago, I have been in love with pottery making. My background is in graphic art and when I found myself in front of a computer all day instead of the traditional "cut and paste" method, I realized that I didn't like what I was doing anymore. I decided to devote all my efforts to working with clay to satisfy my "hands-on" need.
My current work has evolved from my attempts to explore accident and chaos. Letting the process and material show me where to go.
I work with low-fire red clay slabs that give me a two dimensional field to color and texture. Then the slabs are formed into cylinders, boxes or bowls. The soft drapery feeling from the slab is fixed when the clay is exposed the heat of the kiln. As a statement against the mass production of modern life, each piece of my pottery is created as a unique, imperfect object linking the maker to the user.
