DAC Marketplace Gallery information

The DAC Online Marketplace Gallery, under the guidance of the EC, is part of a comprehensive gallery response to the recent changes due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

  • As part of an evolving strategy to mitigate the decline of sales and access to art by our visitors due to the COVID-19 situation, the EC has provided the "DAC Online Marketplace Gallery" as a platform in which to engage our patrons and community.

  • To remain active in the art field, the EC identified the need for a stronger online presence.

The Online Gallery initiative has been proposed as a response to the COVID-19 Pandemic in order to support DAC’s Operation and Objectives, as listed in our by-laws’ articles, whilst the gallery facility at 96 Franklin Street has been temporarily closed due to the coronavirus global crisis mid-March through July.

In addition, it has been proposed that the online gallery could continue to support the DAC’s operation and objectives as stated in the by-laws’ articles, even when the gallery’s facility will be reopened in a limited capacity due to the Coronavirus pandemic, respectively during safer times for our members and patrons. To continue our positive interaction with our community, the EC has placed this response into action by launching the 1st online Juried Exposition *note - the Juror did the assessment in-person, in the physical gallery*. This online process provides all participating artists the platform to submit, pay the fee, see the announcement of winners and showcase all work in an environment to be seen beyond our four-walls. In keeping with this approach, the DAC Online Marketplace Gallery is provided.

General/Admin

• This is an actual gallery exhibit, where the gallery is online, and our audience is a community connected to the internet.
• Currently, this process does not support shipping. This is pick-up only.

• We have limited online storage, because of that, the previous month's submission cannot be retained and will be deleted at the end of the show.
• This is a mostly online experience from the member submission to the patron art browsing and/or purchasing. This does not apply where the physical work is involved, picking up and dropping off.
• The DAC Online Marketplace Gallery has its own location in the website menu.
• One item per member, with the exception being smaller items and work that is bundled and intended to sell as a set - for example: figurines, jewelry, multi-panel work (diptych, triptych or polyptych) and artwork that fits within this intent.

DAC Member

• Each member artist is provided one location in the DAC Online Marketplace Gallery.
• All work is submitted via the “Submit Work for DAC Online Marketplace Gallery” form.
• The imagery is the responsibility of the submitting member.
• Ensure the information supplied on the online submission form is a correct reflection of the artwork in the photo.
• Use imagery that effectively reflects the condition and presentation of the artwork, including orientation, framing, matting, etc (or et cetera).
• You’ll be provided the ability to offer a personal thank you note to go along with the artwork. You may have one already with it or provide it before the patron picks it up.

Submission

The window for artwork submission is day after the start of the monthly reception (Friday) and through the Thursday (1 week) before the next 1st Thursday. Please do not submit artwork outside this window.

• For example: If the First Thursday's reception is on the 1st, the first day to start submiting work is the next day, Friday, the 2nd.

• The window for submission closes 7 days before the next month's First Thursday reception, the Friday before the reception.

• Depending on the month, the window will be open for aproxmatly 3 weeks.

• All work is submitted via the “Submit Work for DAC Online Marketplace Gallery” form.
• All entries will be used verbatim from the submission form. Please pay close attention to speelling, gremmar, and use of Uppeir and lowor Case.
• You may submit up to three images. On the submission form, there is a button for each image.
• Upload image supported is jpg format at 72 dpi (Max size of 2MB).

Movement of work

• The work is requested to be brought to the physical gallery before the start of the show.
• All work submitted online must be physically at the gallery and remain there for the duration of the online exhibit to ensure availability to the patron.

Time

• As much as possible, this show will parallel the timeline of the brick and mortar DAC gallery.
• The DAC Online Marketplace Gallery reception will adopt our normal 1st Thursday reception.
• This show will remain up (as much as possible) until the day before the reception.
• All work must be submitted the Thursday before the 1st Thursday.

Selling of the work

• The purchase of artwork is 100% online via the website and PayPal (PayPal account not required).
• Since the artwork is in the physical gallery, the patron can pick-up as soon as possible.
• Once an item is sold, you will be contacted to provide another item (if you desire).

• You’ll be provided the ability to offer a personal thank you note to go along with the artwork. You may have one with it or provide it before the patron picks it up.

Payment of commission

• No change to the commission process.

Tips

• Have good photos without glare.
• Try to represent the work in an environment.
• Use imagery that effectively reflects the condition and presentation of the artwork, including orientation, framing, matting and etc.
• Simple is better and less is more. Imagine yourself on the viewing end (text and imagery) of any item.
• Present the work in the best possible (lighting, position or pose, environment, and background) way that captures the viewers' attention and keeps it - without sacrificing clarity and purpose.
